With over 600 fixtures typically in football, rugby, cricket, cross country, swimming, athletics, tennis and aquathlon/triathlon, sport is an integral part of school life. Boys are timetabled to be running around and making the most of the sports facilities for over five hours a week – not including clubs or Saturday matches.
We encourage active participation and give every boy the chance to represent the school in each of our major games. Our sporting programme is a traditional one with football, rugby and cricket being the principal sports. The popularity of hockey is also growing. There are teams from the Under 8 age group right through to Under 13 of varying abilities. We also have cross-country, athletics, swimming and tennis teams. Other sports include golf, taekwondo, triathlon and judo as part of our extensive clubs and activities programme that takes place both at lunchtimes and after school.
Our comprehensive sports programme uses the schools excellent facilities which include a 25m swimming pool, pitches for cricket rugby and football, cricket nets, athletics track, astro-turf, tennis courts, zip wire and multi-purpose indoor sports hall. The school also has an enviable reputation in cross-country with our extensive grounds used to host regional events for boys and girls.
All participation is celebrated equally and the enthusiasm and effort of our boys results in healthy participation and sporting success. In recent years there have been several unbeaten teams as well as an abundance of trophy wins at local, regional and national level in a wide range of sports. More importantly, the boys at all ability levels and ages thoroughly enjoy their sport and develop life skills such as teamwork, confidence and resilience in the process.
