A huge Somerhill shoutout to Minnie and Dottie, who have recently competed in the 2024 Dance World Cup Finals!
Held in Prague, Czech Republic, and with over 9,500 dancers representing 66 countries, the Dance World Cup is the biggest competition in the world and features all genres of dance. Somerhill pupils Minnie and Dottie were part of a small group of 9 dancers, ranging from 6-9 years old, who competed in the ‘National and Folklore’ section with their dance ‘Lapland’. All the dancers performed incredibly and managed to come away with second place and a silver medal. To finish second in the world in their particular age group and category is an amazing achievement and something that both girls, along with their fellow dancers, should be incredibly proud of.
To qualify for the world finals the dancers had to go through a rigorous selection process involving the head of Team England amongst others. Their dance school, Firefly Dance School, successfully gained qualification for no less than 14 dances. Both Minnie and Dottie have been dancing since they were 1 and have competed in many dance competitions across the south east. They have also qualified for the all-England finals to beheld in Wolverhampton at the end of July – good luck to both of you!
