SOMERHILL EVENT

Over 550 pupils from 22 schools descended onto the Parkland at the Somerhill Cross Country event. It is possibly one of the longest courses of the season, with long uphill stretches, downhill descents and varying terrain. Six races across the afternoon saw yet more excellent results from all our runners. Our U9 girls and boys won their individual age category, with Ted K claiming a 3rd place finish in his race. The U11 girls came 2nd overall with the U11 boys winning their age category, Isobel D recording a 3rd place finish and Raffy C coming 1st. Our U13 boys performed well, claiming 6th overall in the team event.

BRENCHLEY RELAYS

Somerhill team pride was back alongside glorious September sunshine for the Brenchley Cross Country Relays at St Ronan’s Prep last Friday. The format for the event, set amongst the rolling Hawkhurst hills, is slightly different than usual relay events with one pupil from each year group (5, 6, 7 and 8) representing each team.

Conditions on the day were perfect, with hills, woods and sprint sections to challenge every runner, and magnificent runs from our Years 5, 6, 7 and 8 athletes saw the boys and girls secure 2nd place behind Hilden Grange and Dulwich Prep respectively.

Special mention goes to Rosie T who was awarded the individual trophy for the fastest time in the girls’ Year 5 and Year 6 leg of the relay. In addition, with no Year 7 and 8 girls, Bibi D, Isobel D, Emily T and Juliet B competed on a par against the older runners.
The combined scores of the Somerhill A and B teams across the boys’ and girls’ races were enough to secure Somerhill as the overall winner of the team trophy for the second year running. Well done boys and girls!

RAWLINSON RUN

At another event, Somerhill’s younger runners headed to Dulwich Cranbrook with our U7, U8 and U9 boys and girls taking part in six races. It is the first time our U7s have had the chance to compete, and they thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Several notable performances helped secure a resounding Somerhill win and regain the Shield; Dottie H 3rd, Christian M 2nd, Alicia C 3rd, Veronica B 4th, Ted K 1st, Archie C 3rd, Sophie T 1st, Willa R 2nd, Hudson C 4th and Lewis R 2nd.
Well done to everyone involved!
