The Somerhill beehives were given a good clean-out over Easter, in anticipation of repopulating the apiary this spring.
It was therefore very good fortune that a swarm of bees was spotted near an old tree stump in the parkland. Sarah Benham, our lab technician, and Julian Hunt, Somerhill’s bursar, set off to rehouse the homeless pollinators. The operation went very smoothly as the bees had conveniently gathered in an easily accessible spot and the colony have now taken up residence in one of the beehives.
The beekeeping club has also been very busy this term, visiting and monitoring the Somerhill hives.
