The Bickmore Hall is the hub of our school’s sporting activities and fixtures, and complements our extensive playing fields, tennis courts and astro pitch. Suitable for a wide range of sports, the building has changing rooms for the pupils and a viewing balcony equipped with table tennis and table football sets.
Our four-lane, 25-metre swimming pool enables us to offer swimming lessons on site and host swimming galas, aquathlons and triathlons. With a dining hall in the same block, this building is central to school life.
Outdoor learning is part of Somerhill’s ethos with 150 acres of glorious parkland and woods. We use our grounds for a variety of activities, learning and play, including camp-building clubs, overnight camps and team-building events. We have a large treehouse complex on the edge of the woodland to complement the play areas dotted around the site. Pre-Prep also have their own outdoor play area with child-friendly artificial turf.
Our state-of-the-art music building was built in 2014, giving us a new set of teaching rooms, a music technology suite and a wonderful performance room overlooking the Weald of Kent.
We have many sports pitches looked after by our fantastic grounds staff. These include rugby and football pitches for the winter, cricket pitches and athletics track and field, for the summer. The school also has an enviable reputation for its extensive grounds used for cross-country sport.
We have three modern science and engineering labs. These help us deliver our technology and engineering programme, which has been a priority in recent years as we look to prepare children for an ever-changing world.
Somerhill has two well-stocked libraries – one for Pre-Prep and one for Years 3 to 8. Children use the libraries regularly and there is lots of support to help them extend their reading and learn about referencing.
Our beautifully ornate Mansion Hall and Grand Salon are both used for drama lessons, assemblies and performances.
We have a range of facilities to support children’s digital literacy, including 2 fully equipped computer facilities, portable devices and touchscreens in every class to support the development of digital literacy in all subject areas.
