Kent Junior Schools XC
21st November 2017

On Saturday 18th November, ten Derwent Lodge girls from Years Three to Six took part in the The Kent Junior School Cross Country Championships at the Kent Showground, Detling. More than 1000 children from around 90 schools had signed up to run, making it one of the largest primary school cross country events in the UK.

Conditions underfoot, adverse weather conditions and a huge depth of county talent made for some exciting races. Derwent Lodge resilience shone through, and after a superb team performance from Eliza (6th), Niamh (7th) and Amber (11th) in the Year Five event, the girls came through as Kent School Champions in their category.

Lily's impressive run in the Year Six race saw her scoop the individual Year Six trophy. She finished the hilly 2.2.K course in 8 mins 15 secs, at least 20 seconds ahead of her nearest rival. At one point in the race, she even overtook the hare!

In the 1.2k event for Year Three and Four runners, Belle and Iona finished 75th and 100th respectively, whilst the Year 4 line up results were as follows: Elena 41st, Michelle 59th, Daisy 95th and Bruna 109th. All good experience for our junior runners.
