Bracken Cup and Woodmansee Shield 2017
21st March 2017

Seven in a row for Yardley Court and a clean sweep of trophies. It was wet, windy and cold for most of the afternoon but that couldn’t stop our Yardley Court boys racing to another Bracken Cup triumph. Our U9s were the pick of our runners, which was great in such horrible conditions. Tristan won the race with James home in 6th. The U11s won comfortably also, with Finn G-P first home in 4th – aside from his House XC win, definitely the best I’ve seen him run in his time here. George H ran well also to finish 16th and be the first Year 5 home. Finally it was a sad farewell to some of our U13 boys. Fin C, such a key part of YC success over the last 6 yrs, ran well to finish 2nd. Ollie H was our next runner, followed by Toby. Again it was our packing near the front end of the race which resulted in low scores – a truly brilliant team effort from all. Well done to the 40+ who ran so well for us. It is so easy to take it all for granted but these boys really give it their best from start to finish, whatever their ability and I am very proud of the cerise running machine.  Roll on 2018 – I wonder what the Year Twos are like?! Mr Holmes
41 Derwent Lodge girls ran out in to the rain and wind, with two teams in each age group. In the U9 race the first six DL girls across the line were Niamh 2nd, Eliza 3rd, Martha T14th, Sophia C 19th, Iris 29th and Lara 37th. With 103 points, they finished in 2nd place overall. In the U11 race the first six DL girls across the line were Lily 1st, Sophie 3rd, Ottilie 5th, Eva 9th, Amber 14th and Bella 16th. A hugely impressive team total of just 48 points ensured that U11 victory was ours once more! To finish off the events, DL had a number of girls running in the U13s race. Yes others were taller and yes they were older, but that didn't stop our Year 5 and 6 girls giving of their very best, impressing everyone with their sheer determination to cross the line as quickly as they could. The first six girls home against a very strong field of runners were Sophie W 18th, Annabelle 25th, Martha K 31st, Isla 36th, Harriet 39th and Nina 42nd. We missed out on claiming the Woodmansee shield by just three points to a very good Granville side. What an excellent end to an outstanding season of cross country at Derwent Lodge. Well done to all 41 girls. Next season certainly looks very promising! Miss Hughes
