Derwent Lodge U11s strengthened their national sporting reputation today, finishing in 9th place overall at the IAPS Netball National Finals.
234 Prep schools compete in the IAPS Netball regionals, with only 40 schools qualifying for the Nationals. The girls were thrilled to qualify last week and began their campaign today with a superb set of wins against Wellingborough and Ashfold School. Next up... Newlands and a 7-7 draw. With two wins and a draw behind them, they faced tough opposition in the form of Berkhamsted, who won 9-2. Another win for Derwent Lodge followed against Barrow Hill, before they faced another very strong team; St Piran's, who won 7-4. DL had two further convincing wins over The Marist Prep and Casterton Sedburgh before the final group game against Millfield Prep. To the absolute delight of all the girls, staff and parents, Derwent Lodge won 9-8 in a superb game of netball. An outstanding way to finish the tournament group rounds.
After an anxious, exciting wait for final scores to be entered, Derwent Lodge narrowly missed out on qualification for the quarter finals. They finished in third place in their group of ten schools, achieving 9th place overall in the tournament.
We are all incredibly proud of the team and their achievements today. Their standard of play was superb, as was their resilience, sheer determination and team spirit! Congratulations to Sophie W, Sophie S, Isabella, Isla, Tahlia, Katie, Olivia, Kayla and Ottilie and a huge Thank You to their wonderful coaches; Miss Hughes, Miss Kerr-Sheppard and Mrs Dicks.
