The Schools At Somerhill are seeking a specialist Learning Support teacher with a relevant qualification focusing on provision in the Early Years and Key Stage 1. This full-time role will include planning and delivering small group and  individual  lessons,  class  support,  advising  class  teachers  and monitoring progress.

This is a full-time Learning Support Teacher post, largely focusing on Early Years and Key Stage 1 but with the possibility of some cross over into Key Stage 2. The successful candidate will join a small team of well qualified and highly motivated specialist Learning Support  staff. With  over  600  pupils  in  total  across  the  three  schools,  the  Schools  At Somerhill enjoy a reputation as one of the most successful local independent schools and comprise a co-ed Pre-Prep, a boys' Prep school and a girls' Prep school all housed on a single stunning site. The Schools benefit from superb facilities and are set in over 150  acres  of  beautiful  parkland  located  just  off  the  A21  between  Tonbridge  and Tunbridge Wells. 

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • teach either individuals or small groups of pupils within, or outside the class
  • prepare lessons and resources
  • mark and assess work
  • develop and adapt conventional teaching methods to meet the individual needs of pupils
  • advise, collaborate with and support the classroom teacher regarding adjustments that may need to be made to teaching, support and resources, to address the needs of children with special educational needs 
  • use information from whole school assessments to highlight children with special educational needs and to track their progress
  • assess children who have long or short-term learning difficulties and work with colleagues to identify individual pupils' special needs
  • coordinate targeted provision for children with special educational needs and review its effectiveness.  
  • work with the head teacher and governing body to ensure that the requirements of the Equality Act (2010) are met in terms of reasonable adjustments and access arrangements
  • liaise with Learning Support teachers and other teachers and support  staff across the three schools at Somerhill
  • liaise with other professionals, such as speech and language therapists, physiotherapists and educational psychologists
  • work closely with parents and guardians
  • carry out administrative tasks, including updating and maintaining records of pupils' progress
  • attend in-service training and contribute to the INSET of staff.
  • take part in on-going training to keep abreast of the latest initiatives in special educational needs.
