The girls enjoyed a successful athletics season, despite the wonderful British weather hampering lessons in the first couple of weeks of the summer term!
In June, eleven of our talented Year Six girls, and one from Year Five, were selected to represent DL at the U11 IAPS Regional Athletics Championships at Ashford. As a trial for the National IAPS Championships, the pressure was on to bring home some medals! We did not leave empty handed, with silver for discus, and bronze for long jump and the 4 x 100m relay.
The highlight of any summer term is of course Sports Day, which this year was held all on one afternoon, with girls choosing one jump, throw and track event each to compete in, followed by the whole-school House relay. Needless to say there was fierce competition between the four Houses, with some outstanding displays of athleticism and sportsmanship throughout. A number of school records were broken and there were also some fantastic records set in new events introduced this year including Standing Triple Jump, Standing Long Jump, Junior Discus and Shot Putt and 70m Hurdles. At the end of the day Coniston emerged victorious, winning by the smallest of margins of only one and half points!
